The Port Royal Society at Winterthur Throughout his life, Henry Francis du Pont dedicated himself to creating, preserving, and fostering an appreciation for beauty. In 1931 he rescued superb architectural elements from Port Royal, a historic house in Philadelphia that was slated for demolition. Du Pont brought this outstanding architecture back to Winterthur and installed it as part of a major addition to his home, creating a new entrance at which to welcome family and friends. Today, the Port Royal entryway and parlor are among the highlights of the museum's period rooms, and they exhibit the Winterthur tradition of excellence and hospitality with superb attention to style and detail. The Port Royal Society welcomes you with this same sense of openness - encouraging you to join other members who are preserving Winterthur, a great American country estate, for future generations. The Port Royal Society was established to recognize, honor, and thank our most loyal supporters - those who have continued the generous legacy of H. F. du Pont by remembering Winterthur in their estate plans. Membership in the Port Royal Society is exclusive to those who have created a provision in their wills or estate plans to benefit Winterthur and who have informed Winterthur of this commitment. These provisions include bequest intentions, gifts that provide a life income (such as charitable remainder trusts, gift annuities, and pooled income fund investments), gifts of real estate, life insurance, qualified retirement plan assets, and other deferred gifts. Port Royal Society members are honored at an exclusive annual event acknowledging their dedication to Winterthur. Additionally, each member receives a distinctive Port Royal Society gift and is recognized in the Annual Report. Members also receive special invitations to Winterthur events, conferences, seminars and educational programs. Requests for anonymity are always honored. If you have already made estate provisions for Winterthur, we hope that you will share those plans with us. If you need more information, we will be glad to help you decide which gift planning options will best suit your needs and intentions. Please call the Office of Gift Planning at (302) 888-4878 for a confidential conversation about gift planning and the Port Royal Society.
